Let's shape future of this group
Wróć do Threads Archive#281 Julitka
1. Elten is also guided by a non-profit organization. :D NVDA keeps so well only because of many volunteer programmers wo contribute. Why Elten does not, regarding its presence on Github just from the beginning?
2. Learning another language for a programmer is not an obstacle. Or, at least, should not be.
In Poland if you're hired by a company, you shouldn't ask if their product can be rewritten, cause you on't know the language. They would laugh on you so much. A good programmist should be flexible enough, that's what I know.
3. If you cannot contribute to the app itself, which I personally still cannot understand, why won't you contribute to server optimization? I believe it is not all about Ruby itself.
4. And still, Ruby is not an unpopular language. If it were, I wouldn't see so many job offers for ruby devs.
5. Well, to be honest, i can't understand this: "The fact of the matter is you volunteered. You made the choice to commit to this and you gave a timeline, even if only tentatively. There's nothing wrong with people to expect you to keep to your word. That's not being ungrateful, that's human nature.
". If that's human nature, I do not understand and accept human nature. If you mean we volunteered and that is why we should do even more, only because we all are volunteers, including dev, that's quite illogical, isn't it?
-- (Sir-Charlie):
The NVDA allusion is flawed on so many levels. The only reason NVDA has so few devs is due to NV access status as being a non-profit. They can only hire devs from Australia. Of course, in the grand scheme of things Australia is a small country population wise and NVDA itself is a pretty obscure programme. So of course it'll have a few blind developers. As for Ruby, objectively speaking it's a pretty neesh language as well. Sure it's used but Python, C# ETC is significantly more popular. While you may not get full scale employed programmers, if it were coded in one of those other languages you would have gotten people who could have at least tweaked the minor bugs while you do the heavy lifting. So I suppose I don't quite see your argument here.
As for the main point I think it's very reasonable to expect some kind of update as to the situation regarding the English forums. Things have cooled down for now but the fact of the matter is the English forum is still a car with a block on the X with no driver. We're only safe for now because we're driving down a straight road with no obsticles, but what happens when we encounter an obsticle? Also, I'm frankly tired of seeing people use the volunteer excuse as a cop out whenever the slightest bit of pressure is applied. The fact of the matter is you volunteered. You made the choice to commit to this and you gave a timeline, even if only tentatively. There's nothing wrong with people to expect you to keep to your word. That's not being ungrateful, that's human nature.

that's what I read from a user.

Really? Can't you find any ruby guide in the internet?
So does Pajper teach all people in the world or what?

GitHub has released a comparison of the most popular programming languages in 2022. Specifically they counted in which languages most projects are written.
It looks like this:
1. JavaScript
2. Python
3. Java
4. TypeScript
5. C++
6. Ruby
7. PHP
8. C#
9. C
10. Shell
I will add that in 2022, 3% of new programming projects were created in Ruby.
Shoot for the Moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.
#284 balteam
Ok, that's a very good argument.
but you can also use google.com
Just write something like "how to program in ruby", "ruby guide"
I even found materials in polish language.
#285 rudolf
I know how I google something. anyways. like I said already, I am slowly learning bgt and I have tbh really no patience to learn now also rubi. and also, I heard that only from a user in a group. that means not that I also agree to it. just saying.
and what you mean with that? "Ok, that's a very good argument."

would be interesting to have a list like 58 projects was created with rubi, 496 with python, etc etc. but that sounds interesting.

Hmm, quoting GitHub:
In 2022 alone, developers started 52 million new open source projects on GitHub—and developers across GitHub made more than 413 million contributions to open source projects.
So we're talking about 1.5 million new Ruby projects.
Shoot for the Moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.

@rudolf Just let them talk, it won't help to discuss about such topics, they will always find arguments, and if they don't have good then its github. We are just going this way because pajper can't answer on questions about the forum and facts, so we need to talk about something we find arguments for, I'll start talking again if yall are able to speak without thinking that every single word against the programm is a insult to the dev, but its pretty sad how the council is trying to support each other with arguments and stuff noone was ever asking for.
#289 rudolf
can you maybe send me a link to that? I also don't see anything related to rubi here so from where do you know it?

well tbh. this program needs to be re coded, because there are way more people wich can speak pretty good python than rubi I think. like github said it already. :P. the thing is just, I don't know if that is pajpers fault with the bugs or rubis, but in both cases it makes then more sence to try it better in python because it would take longer to find and fix all bugs from elten than just recode it. and also, I said already, I think since python is larger then the server it will probably way more easyer to handle the whole elten stuff with users etc. I know that's a hard work to convert everything like user data, etc in the new format and stuff, but I think on long sight it makes just more sence to do it. well pajper you would to have to stop temporally all works on elten, the IOS app and so on to can more program for eltenPython and I think you should there make beta testings for everyone, and so on. it would be a lod of work, and hard work, but at the end it would be the best for elten.

BGT unfortunately cannot be counted as a real programming language. :( Sory to say.

lol bro it can? only because it is outdated that means not that it losts it's status of a programming language.

We told you our arguments, as you told us yours. Then you wish to stop the discussion. Isn't that a shamy walkover? Does it mean you have no more reasonable arguments? :)

Well, HTML was also popular. 30 years ago. And, what's more, I know a language called Kotlin. That's funny, in our country we know much more a ketchup brand of this name, not a programming language. :D

um, um... bro I just say nothing anymore to this topic/to the discussion about bgt besides that:
bgt is a programming language. it's outdated and only for blindis so it has no ranking on github because to less users are using it because there also sighted users on github. *sighs

Well, ekhm, so why do you learn it? Just for fun or the prestige of knowing any language? Wouldn't it be much more useful to know C, Python or that "shamy" Ruby instead?
