Hey. Seems I missed lots of things. So, very informative discussion. First of all, I want to thank Nuno for his awesome work/contribution to zdsr screen reader. maybe 5 years ago, I was first translator of nvda to lithuanian language, so I know how difficult and sometimes anoying work can it be, but very useful and required for all the blind comunity.
I downloaded and installed the Zhengdu screen reader and I'm even testing it now.
Currently I have a question (well, I'm sure it would be much more): if it suports sapi5, how to switch to it's synthesizers as I really would like to use espeak also on it?

ZDSR+Z > Voice Scheme > New > Select voice.

Does it suports eloquence in any form?

#486

Yes, IBM VV TTS.

Thanks. Now, another question: what's the difference between 26 dolar edition and commercial edition with works with dongle? I mean, in featuresfunctionality?

#488

Search module, screen navigation. But these are slowly added to the commercial version

So after they add all of those features, the dongle won't really worth 200 dollars...

Well, worth or not worth. The dongle production is expensive in itself. For me it still be worth 200 dollars, as I can get it anywhere I want

Most screenreaders don't require an internet connection all the time... What if someone doesn't have internet connection somewhere but at the same time they don't have a dongle either? If someone pays 26 dollars a year to have 2 eyes, it's a minimum to have those eyes at all situations.

The program never stops speaking. Some functions are limited when offline

Oh, that's clear. :)

I have a request, I think it would be very useful if my brother, who happens to be the author of this thread, would give us a review of the latest version of NVDA.

Hm, screen navigation, what's it in zdsr words? is it something like nvda object navigation?

#496

No, much better. You can navigate arround the screen in 2D, so you can use 8, 2, 4, 6, 3, 9 to navigate on screen as if it were a 2D grid.

And it won't be in 26 dolar version? P.s. as I understand correctly internet connection will be required not just for activating, but all the time I'm using zdsr?

Now that more and more add-ons are becoming compatible with the latest NVDA, I don't see any loss of functionality in it. Some people gripe about NVDA breaking add-ons, seemingly on a regular basis, but really, the developers have no choice but to keep pace with Python, both to keep it compatible as older versions of Python become unsupported, and to port new features into NVDA as that becomes possible.

I'm not sure what else I can say about this current version, other than it's still very responsive, snappy! It does all I need it to, and then some!

@498 Yeah, of course, sure thing.
@497 No, if you have no internet, the program will have limited function after 6 hours of loss of the connection

Well I'd try ZDSR as a secondary screen reader, but due to its limitations, I wouldn't use it as my main one. I mean, which of the other screenreaders lose functions without an internet connection? Of course, functions that need internet connection by default for example the weather addon in NVDA won't work, but that's not a thing you'd need to use the screenreader effectively in an area you don't have internet.
