Warning! From October 24, we are introducing premium features

The collection for Elten, voluntary, without any restrictions, started on May 20th. After four months, it was still not possible to collect the desired amount. So what was the other option? Either close the project or make it fully paid. I think that such decisions would be even less pleasant.

Now, where does this claim come from? Just because of the premium features? That's not an argument. There are so many people who ask you to pay for their services.

And how do you know that NVDA developpers are having no problems with financial support?

The dialogue window you are mentioning was, in fact, the previous attempt to collect money for developing Elten. Attempt that has failed.
And I do not know what is illegal in your point of view. This is an app created by me and if I want this dialogue window to show every hour, I can make so. I will not obviously, but I can.

By the way, it would have been nice if you had known me before explaining how unfair and rude person I am.
I will be honest, reading such posts makes me think that the best possibility I can attempt is to close Elten immediately. In six years I think that I spent over 1,000 hours working on this project. It has, indeed, many bugs and problems that I am trying to resolve.
But I have never ever got anything for this work.

It also applies to many other people: Elten moderators, translators, beta testers.
We all are creating this software without any, ANY profits.

The problem I see either way (premium or otherwise), is Elten needs more promotion outside of its own country.

That's why donation's failed.

The reason why Klango was popular, it was heavily promoted by people. Even sighted folks were on it! (At least a few...)



So, English folks who are ggood with fliers and what not, may wish to figure out the best way for promoting the software/web site.

i really don't know what to say to this. elten is a server thing, and nvda isn't. that's why pajper needs money.

@pajper what server do you need? what parameters? i have a friend that can host server for a good price. he is russian but i don't know if he knows english. how much do you pay for server for 1 month?

I think you're forgetting again that they do have a paid offer, their basic training. And I agree with Trenton, in that Elten is less popular than NVDA, and with this, less popular than it should be. Just think about Dawid's current situation though. He has no money to pay for the servers. He asked for donation, but that wasn't successful enough. So, he makes some features paid to lure us to pay. But maybe, just maybe, promotion would make even a donation campaign on a voluntary basis more successful. The money he's currently got will hold till august 26 next year. We'll see what happens. Probably the premium features will come, but if they are as successful as the previous donation campaign, well, what to do? I hope I made clear how hard this all is, so I'd advice you all to do it how I do it, take it as it is. Those features aren't necessary, like it has been said before, to use the program. I, for my part, will try to compensate for those five features I miss. In actual fact, only two can't be replaced, and that are the downloading from sound themes from the server and the history of mentions. The other three, built in translator, attachments to 64 MB and limitless voice messages all have a workaround which is completely free of charge. I can see how unfair it is for those who don't have money on their hands and want to use a certain feature, but rudeness is not the way to go. So, try to just take as it is.

Now a completely different question, shouldn't this thread be in "news and information?" Same goes for the thread about the portal name and address changes.

Well it was Pajper who put it here; so I think he may have found it more appropriate to put it here. He also put the same thread in the same place in the Polish forum, under Elten network.

We have currently 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Intel Xeon E2136 4,5GHz, 10gbit/s Internet. This server costs about 5000 pln yearly.

Polish users suggested to make audio forums and messages also paid. As for me, I am against, but many people are for, so I suggest it also here to be discussed.

Well, that is how it was in Klango. I'm against it as well, and to make Elten different from klango, this may be another reason not to do it like this. But, private messages are limited to two minutes, so why not the forum posts too?

Many people argue that premium features do not offer too much. On the other hand, any function I'll add to premium packages will be deleted from the basic version.
It is very hard to equalize it.

For anyof thesechanges, you should try and look for more blind people's thought on other social networks, and see what they think.
