The Story of EltenLink
From a personal passion project to an international community.
Klango's Legacy
For many years, the blind community had a beloved digital home: Klango. It was a pioneering, fully accessible social platform that brought visually impaired users together like never before. However, as time passed, Klango began to fade and lose support, leaving a deeply connected community without their primary meeting place.
A New Home
Recognizing that the community was losing its digital sanctuary, Dawid Pieper took action. In August 2014, EltenLink was launched to fill that growing void. What started as a simple communicator quickly became a lifeline—a new, safe space where people could reunite, talk, and simply be themselves without worrying about visual interfaces.
Passions Unleashed
As the years passed, Elten grew far beyond a basic chat app—it became a vibrant, living ecosystem. While the core forums were there from the start, the subsequent introduction of specialized community groups and blogs unleashed a wave of creativity. Users began sharing everything from cooking recipes and philosophical essays to beautiful literature and discussions on differential equations. Every passion found its audience, and lifelong friendships were forged.
The Heartbeat of the Community
The community’s heartbeat truly started pounding with the introduction of Voice Conferences. These weren't just sterile meeting rooms; they became virtual living rooms. People gathered to listen to music together, host amateur podcasts, play audio games, or just talk late into the night. It was the sound of a community that had found its voice.
Securing the Future
With hundreds of people logging in daily, Elten was no longer just a project—it was a responsibility. To protect this incredible community and ensure the servers would always stay on, the Prowadnica Foundation was established. This step didn't change the spirit of Elten; it simply built a strong roof over the community’s head, allowing the mission to expand into the real world.
Continuing the Journey
Today, as we look toward the multi-platform future of Elten 3.0 and Eltenger, the technology is merely the vessel. The soul of Elten remains exactly as it was in 2014: a safe, welcoming, and deeply human network. A place built by its users, for its users.
