My Bid To Be Admin
Back to Threads Archive#1 Sir-Charlie
Well hello there Elten community. We've had an interesting few months here in the English forum. WE had a temporary state of martial law, toxicity and incredible levels of vitrial by a select few and even talks about shutting down our otherwise lovely and interesting community.
Right now our community is a ship at sea with no captain. Hell we don't even have a rudder to navigate the ship, and right now most of the would-be captains have either stepped down or flat out been disqualified.
Some people say that our ship may as well be in the Bermuda Triangle and we should forget about it and move on, but I disagree. Our community is not yet lost. All we need is good, corporative and non-antagonisticadministration, and I think, that's where I come in.
I'm announcing my bid to be your new English Forum Administrator. What can I offer? Throughout my time I think I've served as a fairly rational and reasonable voice pointing out the flaws with the previous administration infrastructure, or I suppose more appropriately the lack thereof. I've served in several administrative positions on respected gaming platforms and for the most part, I was well-liked by the community. I believe I'm also fairly impartial. I don't believe in different treatment for my friends, though as I'll come to in a second, I think each case should be looked at and addressed individually.
I'm also capable of taking necessary and hard decisions if it's for the good of the community, though unpopular it may be. Lastly, (and again I'll expand on this later) I believe administrating a community like this requires communication and teamwork. Communications between regular members and the overall staff team, and internal coordination among staff members.
So what exactly is my platform? I have a few points I intend to push through if I'm given the mandate by you folks to be your administrator.
Firstly, before anything else can be done I'd want to work together with as many members of the English community on a definitive set of rules and guidelines. An Admin team is only as good as the rules they're tasked with upholding, and right now the rules are rather vague. I wish to write a more comprehensive set of rules and to make more things clear. I intend to get community input on what rules they'd like to see, what things they'd like addressed, etc. After preparing a full set of rules, I'll put it to community vote on whether or not people wish to see it inacted. Importantly, while I wish to be guided by the community, I'll still keep my own direction for where I want the rules to go. That isn't to say I'm going to ignore everything, but if, for example, someone suggests to allow cracks and other illegal material I'm definitely going to disregard it, if that makes sense.
Next, now that we've gotten a set of rules to uphold, I'd like to get a proper staff team going. I, one, me, Charlie, cannot administrate on my own. During my time in other administrative positions I've come to appreciate the input of other staff members, and usually we are capable of coming to a fair and reasonable conclusion. If elected, I would like to get a few moderators to serve alongside, (not beneath) me. I was thinking about 3 or 4 other members. They would carry out the bulk of day to day administrating around the forums however I'll still take up that task of course. For more contravercial decisions, I'd like our team to come together and come to a consensus before any defintivie action is taken. I think a system like this can prevent bias and unfair action being taken on members.
Third, I think a reorganisation of the forums are in order. Perhaps remove a few categories or introduce a few.
And lastly, though certainly far from least important, I want to make the staff team I intend to lead more transparent. I want people to feel comfortable asking questions. Raising concerns or even holding the staff team to account. Hence why, if elected, I also intend to introduce a system whereby if a significant number of users wish for me to be removed from my position, they will be able to do so. Likewise, I would also like to introduce a system to be able to more appropriately scrutinise other moderators as well.
So that's it. My 4 points. This is my candidate topic, so feel free to ask me any questions you have in here. I'm requesting, as best possible to keep it strictly relating to my bid for administrator. Keep the old talk out, please.
Anyways, I hope that pitch of mine was comprehensive enough, and of course if not you are more than welcome to ask me anything.
Have a good evening, and as per usual, thanks for reading! #Charlie4Admin

Informative one. Of course one can't agree on anything, but I think with you we may have a chance to actually make this place into something, if you actually ment it serious and it's not about trolling like many sbyw folks wanted to. Your attentions and points are good thus far. However if we look into the others forum, this problems or stress out thread, I'm not sure how you acted in there was showing that off that time. My question would be, once you'd, let's say, get it. How would you act then. Again I often get where you come from with your points and I agree on the very most of them, but some posts in there were a little troll ish, imo. I may see that wrong and I don't want to afend anyone, but that's a thing I've been wondering about. I think you should be able to say your opinions, but as staff you may try to keep it just a tiny bit cleaner there.

Firstly sorry for my bad english.
I want to talk seriously and if some of my sentences sound strange for you i'm sorry.
Charlie, what you write here really sounds nice and wonderful.
Of course I do not agree with your position about cracks and pirated content, but do not listen me here because with the current situation we in Russia sometimes have to pirate because we have no legal way to bring our money to foreign developers.
But okay, I disagree but I understand.
Me can use another platform for exchanging pirate content or send something in private messages if someone requests a free way to use some program or game. This will not go against community rules because PM is PM.
About the other parts of your text, as i said earlier it sounds really nice and yes, I would give my vote to you if the election is relaunched again.
I still consider this petition in google forms an act of childish behavior, but everything else that you are doing on the forum makes me think that you are an adequate person who can be impartial and judge without separating people to friends and foes, children and adults and by other national, racial or religious criteriae.
I will not apply for a moderator position because I am not every day here on Elten and because I cannot promise that I will be impartial and emotions will not rule my decisions.
But i would like to see a person like you as an admin and such similar adequate people as moderators.

Man, let me start by saying I didn't expect so much positive feedback from my bid. In truth, I was expecting more negative clapback by a few people. I'm warmed to see people being supportive of my plea to administrate this place.
@2, yeah. It's trollish because I couldn't really take that topic seriously. That being said I don't think my behaviour in there was too problematic as to serve as that much of a stain on me as an administrator. Ultimately while it's my job to uphold the community's guidelines, I'm still a regular user too and I should have a little fun now and again. That being said, there is absolutely a difference in administrator mode and normal user mode.
@3 this means a lot coming from you actually. I see what you mean about the cracks though and that's definitely a serious issue. I was thinking that we could probably discuss cracks or whatever but not outright ban it if that were to be the case though again I'm not sure, and I think the rules should perhaps be as consistant with Elten's as far possible.
As for the petition, I see you on that, but I still think it was a valid course of action, hence why I made it a campaign point to allow and recognise if people made a similar petition for my potential removal if I were elected.
Keep the questions coming.

Well Charlie, regardless of the fact that I condemn you for your petition, if you really keep your word and do everything as you wrote down here, you are a good candidate and I think you couldn't take everything your hands. I know it's not a thankful job, especially that it's absolutely voluntary and you're going to get a lot of backlash, unfortunately. Not from me, I'll be honest, but from a lot of users, who you give warnings. I'm in high hopes you aren't going to need to deal with issues, with which we dealt last year, (User and his alts), it was tough, especially if you don't have other members in the team.
All in all, I wish you good luck. Hopefully you'll have a thicker skin than I had.

It's probably the solution. For now anyways, I'm not even joking.

So it's been like 2 or 3 weeks, sorry not good with dates. Nobody else even went ahead with doing something like this, wondering what's the next steps

Hi!
I read this thread. I have been abroad in recent days and in general there is a lot going on, and the topic is broad and I have to think about it thoroughly myself. But I haven't forgotten about it.
Shoot for the Moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.

Well I think especially the crack topic reminded us that we do need a new admin now, slowly.

Run. Run far, and fast, and don't look back. Administration is a thankless and tiresome endeavour.
#15 ArcticMoon
So is trolling and writing useless, drama stirring posts in my honest opinion.

Coming from the person who wanted to be admin but had a meltdown when given the mildest pushback
#17 ArcticMoon
But even when I had a meltdown, I wasn't spitting at anyone who was ready to take my place.
To be honest Elten is funny, mostly because here even those blind folks are able to feel being important, who otherwise get ignored on a bigger forum.

Hi. I have a question. Didn't you say in the petition thread you don't want to be moderator or administrator? I mean, isn't it kinda weird that now that your friend doesn't want the ranc now you are trying to get it? Reminds me a bit of the game sightlesWolf tried to play.
