Yamaha Genos

To me, I think the text-to-speech engine they used for the Genos Voice Guide, it kind of almost sounds like Microsoft's Xero a bit in a higher sample rate. And, yeah, I tried it on the Yamaha PSR-SX900, I tried it on the Genos II, and thinking about soon, I'll be trying it on the Yamaha CVP-805, a digital grand piano. So, yeah, if they did make these improvements, maybe I would think I would get one of these free keyboards, but absolutely not now. I'm fine with my Casio CTX-3000 and a Yamaha PSR-E453 I have.

okay but I have a special question how to access it because I don't know if you have to have it on some USB stick or I don't know because I remember on situation I was in the music store and it was very difficult to do many operations on genus 2

And also I don't want to, this is my next post, I don't want to spend money on this, not because it is expensive, no. The problem is for example when you install some expansion packs they are not sounded, not voiced by this voice of course. I think that those things are like normal recorded phrases, they may be for good to add something like spelling of files, like for example in rockbox, but this is just my opinion about it. Maybe it would be good to write some petition on, I don't know how it says in English, but in Slovak it is petition. On change.org for this, but maybe it won't be helpful.

You have to download the voice guide files from any Yamaha keyboard model that you have desired to download, like the SX700, SX900, then extract it, then put the extracted file, which is your keyboard model. Say if you extracted the Genos voice guide, you have to put the file where it says Genos onto your USB stick, and then after that, just put it in the USB and put it into the keyboard, and then wait for a few seconds, and then it should start talking. So, yeah.

To install expansion packs, you have to export the instrument data and download stuff from the application, which is called Yamaha Expansion Manager. I don't know if it's really accessible or not with NVDA. I want to try this at some point. Yeah, if you ever have suggestions or bugs to report, don't hesitate to contact Yamaha. That's what I do.

The operations of voice guide, like I said before, is you just hold direct access button, which is the, I can describe it as the bottom, the second small button towards the right of the screen because you have an exit button and a direct access button. You have to hold it down and then touch anywhere on the screen and then once you find the desired action you want to execute, then let go of direct access and press the screen or touch the screen or press the button. It's kind of a little clunky to do it, but for now, that's the way it is until Yamaha decide to maybe change that or I don't know. Thank you.

Yeah, George, I'm pretty sure the direct access button is on the left, like the button near the left of the screen, not the right, but the, yeah, George and I went to try it both and we both got a chance to try it and it was really, really good. Pretty easy to use, honestly. The only annoying thing is you have to, like he said, you have to, like, tap pretty much on the screen until you find what you're looking for, then release the button, and then tap in the exact spot again. But, I mean, other than that, when you navigate the instruments using the dial and the category buttons, there is category buttons, it's honestly very, very easy and it's great just going through all the instruments and just, like, you know, the only thing is it does not read expansion packs, so when you add things to the keyboard, it doesn't read it, it'll just say loading, and then when you move to the next one, it says loading, so just be aware of that. But other than that, it does read everything that's in the default, not anything you add later, so just be aware of that. Other than that, very, very, very good for what you do.

hey all trying to record this again now um sorry for the background that's my sister um yeah genos as far as i know yamaha released their new genos their genos 2 um but we have the same problem here it's not accessible they have the touch screen i mean they have the voice guide again but uh yeah the touch screen is not accessible it's not operating like android or ios and even if it would operate like this um another reason why i would not buy it would be um because uh you know if you're doing a performance which of course not everyone does but if you perform something live and you hear this speech just speaking in the background that's very bad and that's a reason why i won't buy it i mean i have my tyros 5 still if that thing breaks at some point i'm not sure what i'll do but i'll not buy the genos nope

i understand where you're coming from um yeah the way you fix that is you do um you create different songs and then you do registers like you can do a whole bunch of registers so what you do is you pick what like song you want to do and whatnot like say you have a multi-track of a song that you're performing with something like that then you um you you don't you just preset your registers like your instruments and stuff like that whatever you're performing it by yourself and then you you know um like you preset that up ahead of time so that people don't hear the voice you know that way you just do it with the usb off or the other thing is um use headphones when you're switching you use uh headphones and then you switch you know what you find what you're looking for and then you disconnect the headphones and once you have everything there then you do it like that you know so there is solutions around it you just have to work your way around it and figure it out

Oh, and one more thing, yes, actually, George is right, you're right by the way, George. Yeah, but I think you were saying that the genos to the direct access button is to the right of the screen. Yes, yes, yes, I remember that, but I was thinking of the PSR-SX900, it's to the left of the screen. So, just, you know, don't get confused with that, but that's okay, I know, it's confusing, but yeah, but yeah, so that's what I mean, that's just the way that they did it, is the SX900 and 700, the direct access button is the, like, there's three rows of buttons on the screen, like there's a... And then you're like... There's one or two or three rows of buttons on the screen, and the one you want to use is the, sorry, but it's to the left of the screen, and then the one you want to use is to the bottom right of those ones, so when you hold that button, when you use the touchscreen, and then on the Genos 2, it's the other way around, there's another, there's one button that's to the right of the screen, and so rather than using your right hand to navigate the touchscreen on the PSR-SX900 and 700, you use your right hand to hold the direct access button, and use the left hand to go through the screen. So it's kind of a little bit of an... On the Genos. So it's kind of a little bit of an inconvenience, there definitely needs to be some improvements to make it a little bit better, you know, but yeah, that's it, I just wanted to clarify that.

voice guide it's better to use in a home production but not in a live environment if you're planning to use that keyboard live um i totally agree that setting up your registrations ahead of time it works but if you're going to configure that you just plug in your headphones then once you unplug it that's totally fine or you can play them or if you can like set the registrations or you can set your settings up with the headphones and that's totally fine as well and ifc voice guide is not bad there's there's room for always improvements with this thing
