I don't know if dectalk has been adapted for the python 3 changes that are coming in nvda.
Eloquence and dectalk are two of my favorite synths.

#122

I haven't seen a Dectalk add-on that's compatible with the Python 3, sadly.

Hello all.
I'm using nvda in combination with espeak (max variant which sounds the best of all provided), also using jaws, but only for testing purposes and to discover what's new in every release.
Who of you have tried the following:
dolphin supernova,
window-eyes (which is discontinued as I know),
serotek system access?
What's the difference between them?
Maybe they also had some interesting features?

#124

I've had Window-Eyes and wasn't impressed at all. It seems like I also tried Nova but didn't like it either.

Recently I got JAWS and have only used it long enough to set my speech rate and such. NVDA still does things, reading Facebook articles and the like, much better than JAWS. Just my opinion of course.

I've got Jaws for testing purposes and to better help my good friend Johanna where I can, because she's a Jaws user and very hostile to tech, so she just desperately tries to get along with what is given to her at school. I hope I can get her into NVDA at some point but I reckon she won't like espeak. NVDA is definitely my primary though. As for dolphin, I used to use it for testing as well and got obsessed with orpheus, as it's a speech synth I didn't know back then and I'm a tts geek, so there you go. Since for quite a while though, I never gave a damn about it and never will.

As for NVDA, you can also use it with the Windows One kor voices which works very well in case you don't like the sound of the E-speak voices.

#127

I myself am completely fine with Espeak the way I set it. Besides, it's more responsive.

I use NVDA and love it. I use to use ZoomText but that was getting too expensive. When I had Windows 7, I was very happy to discover that the built-in magnifier could go in full screen. Windows Magnifier is getting better and better.
Has anybody tried Narrator? Narrator on Windows 10 is great. There are a couple apps on my computer that NVDA won't read but Narrator works with them pretty well.

#129

O really? Examples? I like how it's done in windows 10 and it's a good backup for sure. I prefer NVDA though. I guess the apps I use work better with NVDA.

#130

Since I have an HP, one of the apps Narrator will work with is the HP Recovery Manager. NVDA doesn't read that at all. My HP also has their own audio driver called Bang Olufsen. The control pannel for that won't work with NVDA but it works pretty well with Narrator.

#131

I see.

#132

The Bang olufsen works with NVDA, although it's a bit glitchy. A bit out of topic, but I guess we have the same kind of HP then.

#133

Yes, some apps work really well with the Narator screen reader; for instance, the weather app.

#134

Hi. Im using NVDA since 2018.
Before, I used JAWS in school, but I dont liked it.

#135

JAWS is really bloated indeed, to each his or her own I reckon.

#136

Agreed, it has so lots of components that i would never use, it is so huge like iTunes so I would never use it as a main screen reader :D.

Yeah, this is what I love about NVDA. It's minimulistic, so it doesn't come with that many features out of the box, but it more than makes up for that with its flexability and add-ons you can install for it.

Hi,

Thanks for opening this thread.
Assuming it may be useful,I kindly ask that everyone contribute to my poll on screen readers, and strongly condemn whoever typed all the senseless sh*t in the text fields. Please either answer every question seriously or just hit escape and ...

--Cytat (thespyde):
I'm probably opening up a can of worms here but I would just like to expound a bit about NVDA, and invite
others to do so about their favorite or primary screen readers.

When I first saw NVDA, I was so not impressed. I believe it was still in beta or a very early version,
and I couldn't get any use out of it then. I wound up having to use Zoom Text, of all things, to get
what I wanted done, but that was then.

Much later, I came back to it, and found it had grown up. It is now so usable, and has been for quite
some time.

Recently, I'm proud to say, that I even became familiar with object navigation. I didn't think I'd ever
learn that, being, in my opinion, not very intuitive. But now I see some logic in its use, and can do
so much more with it.

I used to be a JAWS user, and look at me now. I don't have any version of JAWS on my computer.
