I don't recommend it for emulating any linux distro that uses a text installer with speakup and espeakup. You just won't be able to install that to your vm. For that you can use qemu, but there are really big problems with sound in this vm, I haven't found yet how it can be fixed.

Yes, vmware it's quite good. I installed win7 with talking PE a few years ago. for ubuntu it's also possible, for archlinux I hope too.
