Hmm, so what do you think about jaws which was previously like 300 USD? Who the hell would be able to pay that amount? They don't need donations because they ask for a horrible amount of money from the customers. And Zhengdu does that as well. A subscription based screen reader? 26 dollars a year? Hmm... That's why I'll first see if I like it or not.

@ArcticMoon Again, JAWS was never advertising itself as a screenreader sold in the developing countries, and so is Zhengdu.
The situation with JAWS is different, it can be given for free by most states, even in the developing countries FS has programs which make it possible for people to get it. but NV Access spreads misinformation and this is why people don't even realize the fact.
JAWS has a good demo, you jsust need to restart your computer every 40 minutes, which is very good for your health as well. COmputer restarts, you do a break, think about something different.

But you don't need to donate a single cent to NVDA if you don't want to. Cryticising that the 10 USD is checked by default is just to find something to bitch at, because it's totally not obligatory and you can still use it free. Donating is a way to show respect to the developers, not to pay because it would be necessary. Jaws's demo is pretty irritating especially if you are in the middle of doing something and you have to restart your computer just because you didn't pay 400 USD. Yes, it's free in a few countries, including Hungary, but I'd ask how long will this stay? It's just money loss for FS so how long will they cooperate?

And how do you know what are the ways of earning money for Zhengdu? It doesn't worth for anyone to ask for no compensation for a product they want to invest in? Your annual 26 dollars, plus whatever they see fit.

I know how Zhengdu earns for itself because I am in the development team and I know of their actions. We're all almost volunteering, developers have their day job, and we don't earn on it. We help people to use the computers freely

And I can tell you that we work closely with the customers. I of course won't share names, but I had cases where a person couldn't genuinely pay, and there's always a way of helping such a person

And who pays for your time? I mean, if you aren't backed up you won't last for long, sadly. I mean not you as a person, but the team. I like ZDSR's concept, but this way it won't really last for long.

It lasts from 2009. Its not a new product, its new on our market but it lasts from 2009. People wnat to donate to ZDSR themselves, but we accept work rather than money

You may not accept money, but if ZDSR wants to grow, you need to invest in it. And if you don't get anything from the customers, what will back you up? And if it's around since 2009, why hasn't anyone thought about making it international yet, only you a few years ago? Why didn't it become as popular as NVDA or Jaws, if it has so a good and memorable past?

By the way, the exam is free to take. You only need to pay whatever it costs if you want the optional certificate, mainly for bragging rights. I've only donated to NVAccess once, and now I'm unable to do so any more. I get the updates completely free. I have no problem clicking not now.

ArcticMoon, you don't understand how China operates as a state and as a society. I don't say that to discredit you but to make you understand.
They do not use our technology because they're pretty much locked from our world, and so they're homegroving a lot of things, including screenreaders. They just didn't have the need to promote the software and so they didn't brag about it, because where they would be able to brag about it?
ZDSR earns for itself, all money that comes from customers is invested in development materials, libraries, ETC.

I might not be the best of people, but I can say that I am extremely stupborn and hard-working.
I don't know if you know the Android world, but there is a great screenreader called COmmentary Screenreader (Jieshuo) in Chinese. This was the ifrst program I have translated, thinking it would be a failure and nobody would want to use it.
But now, definitely everyone knows about it, and a very big amount of people are using it. I can even say that it has been mentioned in Yandex's survey, and this is pretty an achievement

Of course, I agree with you about that. I just don't like when people complain about something just because they ask you if you want to donate. ZDSR kindly asks you to pay for an annual license, while NVDA only asks you if you could donate a few dollars, and you are free to choose between the donate and the no thanks button.

I don't have any problem with the fact that they ask for donations. My problem lies with their advertisment slogans and attitude.
