I am going to say this once, android! has! changed! alott. i have many android phones. sum phones are laggy and slow pre 2020 ore even 2019, but thats beside the point. my point is that talkback, it does have its ups and downs, but using it on a samsung galaxy s24, i will say that it is fast, like as fast as my iphone 14 pro max. and i will be getting a iphone 17 pro this year, yes it is not the latest phone, but, if you want a year old phone, that can do everything that the new iphones can do, just get the older one, it works just fine, and the best part, it is referbished. so, yeah, take that people who decide to spend there money on basicly stupid disitions, getting the new phone is a waist of your money.

I also recently bought a Google Pixel 9A and I also use an iPhone. I've found that some things are better on Android and some things are better on iPhone.
I don't know what to do here

But what is better and what isn't, please talk about your experiences.
@12 did it well.

Honestly, I have an iPhone but Android is better in my opinion, because of multiple things. You can get launchers. Telegram is more accessible. It has other screenreaders you can play around with. So yeah, I am saying that even though I have an iPhone :)

I've thought about this quite often and I've come to the conclusion that neither world of phones is perfect for the blind. Hell, sometimes i feel like neither of them is even remotely good enough. Talkback is laggier than Voiceover, but the Android ecosystem is great and ADB is superior. Apple has a snappier Voiceover but shot themselves in the foot multiple times with their unreliability in software updates (keyword Eloquence sound crackling). In general the ecosystem is solid, but Siri AI is seemingly a desperate attempt that comes to late (or early?) and i've been hearing to much about every new release making some stuff inaccessible, fuck with sounds, etc. Codefactory's Eloquence is a scam - you pay 3 bucks a month for a tts app that crashes upon language switching and takes your entire phone with it. Well, put a bit less dramatic, ti takes your screenreader with it until you reboot your phone or ask someone sighted to switch tts engines for you. Thus, I'm grateful a project like Openevv actually exists.
I also really like that your gestures feel more smooth. If I accept or decline a call, I can use the volume buttons or double tab with two fingers and I actually feel like I do it. Even though it always succeeds with Android it somewhat feels like a game of gambling. Android's keyboard also is horribly slow compared with Talkback. Of course you can work around all of that, but you need to ask yourself the question whether you're willing to actually do that.
And now here goes, a point that perhaps will get me criticized. Or misunderstood. However, I believe that one thing Apple does right is giving you the feeling of actually owning your phone rather than being a guest on the screen. What do I mean by this? Even when I used old devices, I always felt like I had my phone under control. I had no super segnificant downsides compared to what sighted volks get. Well, animations, images and all of that put aside. Whereas, owning a Pixel phone, I sometimes feel like I'm using something clunky. I know this dishonors the work being done and I appreciate it I even can use it at all, but I just believe Apple does this better. Perhaps this is Voiceover speed, perhaps something else.
I'm currently using a Pixel 9 pro. I'm satisfied. I can do all the things i need to do. I'm not overly annoyed when using this device. But there are things that need to improved.
Also, if I was offered an ecosystem switch for free (including my wireless earbuds and fitness device from Google) I'm fairly sure that I would take it. As I wrote above, both systems have downsides. TikTok is not accessible on IOS at all. Development is less fun and more expensive. But for daily usage it probably would be better. And ultimately, feeling like my phone belongs to me and I am a part of society is more important to me than some blindie nerd hobby I tinker with occasionally every now and then.
So, if you enjoy messing around with things and don't mind taking time to set things up, go Android. If you don't care about stuff like that, perhaps rather go with Apple. If you're already in one ecosystem and your device is rather now and/or you have accessories, don't do either.

I don't get what people have with TikTok not being aaccessible on iOS, because it is, lol.

Last time I used it I couldn't even navigate to next, pause and previous buttons.

Just IDK, Learn to use it without voice over? I'm fully blind and don't need VO for it. Swipe up and down, double tap for like, swipe right for tiktok shop shit and swipe left for creator's profile.

Yes, exactly. iOS is more Voice Over friendly than Android. You're so right. Thanks for the useful contribution.

#51

Bro, with all my respect but learn spelling. Androyd? i o s? Ouch.

As someone who uses both iOS and Android, I think both operating systems are user-friendly in their own ways. Every platform has its minor bugs, but updates usually take care of them over time. You can definitely get nice work done on either system depending on what features you prefer.

The only problem with that statement is for those chinese phones that wrun there own software that coppy other OS's it can have some unlabeled elements... Don't know since I haven't used one and I can't because oh, we're banning chinese stuff because of national security blah blaaaaaaaah...

Now with Backtalk, Android is even more usable. It now has close to zero latency with screenreader when using Backtalk, and those who are apple people can create their voiceover sound theme.

is there any other way to get backtalk without messing with ADB?

And android is more talkback or commentary friendly. But if you find a way to make it voiceover friendly, hats off man.
