I have no issue with questioning the exact number of undesirables exterminated during the war, but I think there is enough evidence to support that it happened. Holocaust denial is just a form of antisemitism as far as I'm concerned. I do thinkthat it's absurd to act like the holocaust was a uniquely evil and awful tragedy though. It's ridiculous to say that something which happened for maybe a decade or so significantly outweighs other tragedies which lasted for hundreds of years, and which still have lasting impacts to this very day.

Lots of Euro cope inevitably follows when it's pointed out to them that if the state is authorized to bring a citizen to trial because of ideas they express, that state by definition does not have freedom of speech.

The argument is simply that a state cannot criminalize the expression of ideas and still be considered a state that has protections for freedom of speech.

It obviously can. Denying the confirmed death of 6 million people is not an idea, it is spreading misinformation which does not align with the facts. It's an exception in the law, and freedom of speech is in the basic law over here. Anyways, I think I'll continue enjoying my vacation rather than discussing about this with you.
I think the unfortunate thing is you're not even reading what he said clearly, because he said on multiple occasions he doesn't deny the holocaust. He believes the holocaust happened. He doesn't think it's immoral if someone questions the narratives sounding it, which IMO is legitimate. There's nothing immoral about questioning the exact facts regarding an event. Regarding the Mastodon post, I realise certain people have a vendetta against me and I won't be entertaining their foolishness. The thread was called most contravertial opinions. If you can't take the heat, then sucks to be you. Nobody expressed anything in here that could be construed as hateful or illegal, so I'm not sure what he expects. Unlike the author of that post, I'm able to exercise reading comprehension, and will not ban someone for something they didn't say nor believe. Frankly, Fernando has expressed some views which I personally find repugnant and disagree with, and that's OK. However, in this case, none of what he has said falls into that category. I would love to visit the consentration camps one day though.
