Looking for beta testers for ApricotPlayer

Just here to say that Cookie Crumble has been banned. I'll write a more detailed moderation message later but I'm not in a good mood atm.
All I'll say is it is incredibly pathetic that you took the time to spam on Elten of ll places. Like, it's not like a chat client where you can just go A, enter, A, enter, A, enter, etc, you literally have to go A, tab, enter, wait 15 seconds for the stupid app to load, tab again, repeat.

Just came here to announce that the Rust rewrite is pretty much complete and soon 2.0 beta 1 will be uploaded. Enormous jumps in speed and reliability. Throughout the 2.0 cycle I'm planning to add Spotify support and perhaps internet radio if there's interest. Don't forget that you can always go to Settings/Customise main menu if you find the program to be too cluttered for your taste. Literally everything can be turned off or on, and even if you hide a menu item from the main menu you can still access it via the provided shortcut which you can customize in the settings, too.

This app is cool. Just started using it though.

I know there are some outstanding issues in the Python version right now but hoping that all will be resolved in the Rust version. Spotify support is going really good so far and if everything works as it should and is up to my standard I will publish the first public beta of 2.0 today for testing. This is not a finished product by far but it is in a state where I feel it is usable and fulfills my needs. If you don't want to encounter bugs, stay on 1.0.21 for now. Do note that all settings and user data will be compatible with the Rust version, starting with the public beta, so when the update pops up for you it will override your Python install. The updater does back up your original, though. The portable version will unfortunately have to be redownloaded.

The first beta of ApricotPlayer version 2.0 is now available. I would really appreciate some feedback especially when it comes to Spotify and its implementation, as well as any other bugs you may find. Since this is a complete rewrite I expect there to be issues but this is exactly why it's still in beta. If you're using the portable version, please redownload from https://github.com/Urh2006/ApricotPlayer/releases/tag/v2.0.0-beta.1 . It's not an alpha though because it is already usable in its current state.

This app may be a good thing. I might try it. Also I would love to contribute. I actually have ChatGPT Pluss, which gives a good amount of usage. I would love to help contribute. Also, tip of the day: For the best final result, make your coding agent plan what it will do before it does it.

feel free to contribute in any way you wish. I do have my agents plan before any larger overhalls or features but for small bugs/implementation of a part of a feature I just let it do the thing without planning. This is a hobby project after all.

Planning is getting really overrated.

kind of have to agree, especially with opus 5.5. However I find it incredible how many small bugs/vulnerabilities 6.1 Sol or Astra find after I give them Opus's code. If you want to review your code, GPT models clearly do a better job, but for writing code it's usually Claude. However now with 6.1 Sol I'm probably moving back to GPT for most things unless I'm doing something really major just because of how cheap it is and how much usage I get with the Plus plan. If Claude had unlimited chat, I'd never use GPT again, that's basically the dealbreaker for me.

If there's interest I'm willing to add internet radio support in 2.0 as well. Let me know if you'd like to have the same set of commands as YARSP, which is my default radio player for now, commands only, not code, of course. I would like some more feedback on Spotify though. It works really, really well for me and I haven't touched the Spotify app since implementing it, but I would like some opinions. If you have any questions let me know, because the list of keyboard shortcuts has now gotten quite vast and I'm not sure if they're all included in the settings menu. And now, from beta 4 and later, shortcuts can do multiple things depending on where you are in the player section or in the menu (main menu or other menus), so please let me know what you would like to be changed.

I have my radio stuff set up in Quill Radio, which speaking of I have something for the Quill lineup in the works, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to have YARSP style functionality added.

Why is everyone obsessed with internet radio nowadays? Yarsp, Quill, there's also something else in the works in cli, media catalog in Elten, just drop it guys. Radio is cool and all that stuff but we already have a lot of apps for it.

Why is everyone making their own social clients? Why is everyone porting speech synths to NVDA, SAPI and even IOS and Android? Why does everyone do what they do? Because they don't have to just use specific things, and they have the freedom to make things if they want, that's why!

Yeah but it's dumb not gonna lie. I was considering to make a program which acts somewhat like a framework where people can integrate various protocols into but everyone is just going to do their own shit, own app, own whatever anyways so where's the point? Because they don't want to put up with the simplest inconviniences nowadays. And I see it with myself. Meh.

But yeah, we already have internet radio players? So why would I need that there?

People are doing so because AI made it easier. At this point many people think quantity is better than quality, and well, it's always good to be the cool guy who has their own apps. I'm not saying that I've never ever coded with AI because I'd lie, but I create things which either don't exist yet, or the original version isn't accessible or doesn't work anymore.
