selfdriving wehicles: an opportunity or danger?
Back to General Discussion#1 danielsalatek Banned
hi, this topic is about selfdriving or autonomous vehicles... these wehicles are well known in the science fiction novels, but some prototypes were introduced in real time, so, we can talk about this, because in my opinion, 20 years later, it can be very useful for us.

Well I realy can't say. But my parrents have said I shouldn't get one, but I meen people have been testing them.

yeah, it'll be very expensive, but it is a big progress for us, because we should be more independent, it'll take some time, but i smell an opportunity.

Meanwhile I'm hearing that those vehicles, or at least some of them, are driving erratically and some have even caused accidents. I believe we're still a long way from any dependable vehicles of that kind, and unless rehab or some organization with big bucks will buy them for us, well, speculation is all we can do for now.

Yolo, I'd love to get one at some point.

then again We have seen self-driving cars crash before so it can be a risk

@4 and @6, I agree with your words, but we don't know what'll be like in 10 years or so.
So let's just wait, maybe y'all will get one.

I wouldn't wanna try self driving vehicles because I'm afraid that I will go somewhere without me knowing and then I will crash.

well, i've heard about these stupid accidents, but have somebody heard about beginings of the aeroplanes? because these first aeroplanes also caused accidents, and unfortunately these accidents were deadly, and today? we can't imagine our lives without an aeroplanes, so, everythink has its own birthpains.

Uh. I can imagine my life without them personally. Or am I stupid for that.

I've herd some good things about this US bassed company called waymo. At the second they're just a taxi service, but if they ever come out with personalised ones I'd be down to give it a try.

I don't think Self-drving cars as we think of them will ever be available for consumers. I think they'll just be like Uber or whatever. Just because I don't think a regular person would be able to afford being able to pay for the insaurance for those things
#15 danielsalatek Banned
yeah, in the begining it'll be expensive, but the future will show.
#16 starchild
@14 with enough luck prices for those things would go down. I mean, Enough disabled people would push for it I'm sure
#17 Skiing_is_awesome
idk, i don't know if i want a robot driving me around

I think a greater point might be that of course things will fail. A surver won't always stay up and technology will break. Humans have crashed just like these computers will. The most we can do is prevent it from happening as much as possible. Most importantly, prevent a mass-crash with the intire system that runs the computers in these cars. I see them as a great opportunity.

Realistically, accidents with human driven vehicles have always happened and will continue to happen, regardless of traffic laws and increased police activity.
Following that logic, why not drive in a self-driving vehicle? It might actually do a greater job, if it is equipped with enough sensors/data to know how to maneuver out of sticky situations, while people who often take a risk of drunk driving, or who drive badly under the influence of stress, can leave it up to an emotionless mechanism. Sounds good to me.

The only how that could be the case is if all cars on the road were self-driving, and that won't likely e a reality in our lifetimes. The only consistant thing about humans is that they're unpredictable. Machines can't cope with that.
