Seriously: We're Unhappy About This Place, So Let's Do Something Instead of Staying And Cry

Back to Contact with the administration

#1 Sir-Charlie

All right.
I think by this point it's clear to everyone this place under current leadership is as good as dead. What evidence do you need? Let me give a few examples:
1. The head admin promotes immature and unstable people to the moderation team without advising the community.
2. The staff changes the rules without notifying the community.
3. The moderators each have conflicting policies
4. Continuing on from point 3, the moderators don't seem to work and act as a team.
5. The staff has shown their unprofessionalism on several different occasions. Namely, publically denouncing the rest of the team while remaining on said team, staff being condescending to members, Viz.
6. Official staff policy being absurd and not in line with the general views of the community
7. The staff unbanning and allowing harmful and toxic people back into the community who very obviously should not be.
8. Deleting critical topics which showcases how ridiculous a team they are, noteably, the one where alchapers publically denounced Jacob for unbanning Manny.
9. Staff announcements and decisions seem to be made in the conference in the presence of just a few. That information is not being communicated to the rest of the community from the staff themselves, only people who happened to be there at the time
10. Atrocious spelling and grammar. Seriously, have you seen the way George writes in the group and threads changes? It was fine when Dash did it because he's Polish, but I expect better of a Canadian.
So what now?
I'd like to officially suggest that we migrate to Reformed Elten English, the forum I created. I know, I know. Self-promotion and all that but realistically there's no other option. It's clear this forum is a sinking ship and staying and continuing to fight isn't going to achieve anything. I have about 2 moderator slots still opened for anyone who applies, and has a good reputation and seems to be competent, and I'm willing to accept suggestions and feedback from the community at large. It's a new and developing space. We can build something over there together instead of trying to salvage whatever this is.
I know some people have reservations about my moderation style, and I hear you, but I haven't really been given a chance on here to truly test my metal. What's the worst that could happen? IF the moderation of myself and the team isn;t to your liking, you can leave or, I donno, fight with me all day LOL.
I've been the moderator in a few places over the years both in person and cyberspace. Hell, I even almost became the Administrator over here. I only lost out because I voted against myself (Because it's silly to vote for yourself) and I told friend to vote for someone else as a joke. I'm presently an admin over on Sketchbook, and while the community is fairly lax over there I've demonstrated, on multiple occasions I'm more than competent enough to deal with crisis situations.
How will my policies differ from this forum?
1. As I said in my campaign for Administrator of this forum. I will not be deleting posts or threads. Deleting the posts won't solve anything. The trick to ensuring the community remains relatively free of toxicity is ensuring there's a robust set of rules, consistant enforcement of them, and a swift and active mod team to clamp down on the foolishness quickly. So yes, there may be one or two toxic posts, but by the time a mod steps in that's all it should be. Deleting posts isn't going to prevent cases like on this forum where we have 400 plus posts of junk and garbage, if anything it'll only encourage it since people can make their mischief, then have it thrown to the void. Nobody will know who these people are, and it gives the staff less credibility. And, as demonstrated earlier today, having a policy of post/topic deletion is a dangerous slope. It gives the staff the power, but more importantly, the confidence to use said power to remove content they disagree with or simply want gone. So I reiterate, no thread/post deletion on Reformed Elten English.
2. Archiving posts in most cases really is a stupid idea. At this time, the policy on Reformed Elten English will be to exclusively archive those threads which have devolved to no more than a toxic sespool of attacks and slurs, or a thread which was clearly created with the soul intension of fomenting mischief.
3. The staff will be a body of equals. While I'm the head Admin, Jaidon is not God. Jaidon cannot, nor wants to do everything nor decide everything by himself. I expect a strong and unified team working alongside me. With all of that being said, we will discuss and come up with official forum policy together. And after coming up with a draft of the policies, we will put them out for community input. Now, to be clear, in some cases we will not go with what the community says. Fundimentally, the staff team is the main decision making body of the community. We have to do what's right and just. That doesn't mean we're going to disregard everything that's said every time mind you. We may end up making tweaks and adustments based on the input of our community. At the end of the day a community is nothing without.. A community.
4. The staff will communicate any and all changes to the group as quickly as possible. We believe it's important for people to know the happenings of their community. It will also be done in the appropriate forums so that everyone can see as opposed to just a few.
5. If a member of the staff is found to be actively harmful and brings the team into disrepute, they will be removed and subsequently replaced.
6. I expect the Reformed Elten English community to be an active and dynamic one. These policies can be modified and new ones added as we grow.

So, come on over. Give the forum a look and stay a while. Hopefully we're able to build something together over there. See you soon.
After writing this I decided to make a poll just for the fun of it to collect some info. You may answer it if you so desire.

All that I survey, I could easily destroy. From time to time, it is important to remind these small creatures of the true extent of my power.

Changing the group is not a very sensible idea, as groups that are not recommended promote themselves less well and not many will notice. It is best to write to Pajper. I will send a note. Maybe we need reelection?

We need, but I bet 50 bucks that Pajper is fed up with it and if there is any action he will take then only close down the group. Like, fr, what would a reelection help us?

And what? You wrote it in one topic, next won't change anything

@2, we've been down this road. This group is fundamentally broken. A reelection will solve nothing. You and I both know this already.

Oops...

I think the solution now is building the community over there and eventually then lobbying him to make it the official Elten English Community

So if you think that your group will be better, try not to clone subjects from this group. Now reformed english is quite boring. This group also, because everyone writes how bad this community is, or some mods writes how bad are the others mods.
If you really want to encourage people to your group, you need to have something new there.

Say what you will. But your right. Pajper is not going to help I can tell you that. I tried getting a hold of him myself and I got nothing. So we will see where this goes.

Sorry for the late response, apparently my reply didn't go through the first time. But what would a new group even help? Yes, it might solve some of the moderation issues, but how should this fix most things if we are building on a broken fundament? The community it self is so broken, just look at feet discussions. Also, elten still has these ridiculous bugs that have not been adressed for years, like this bug where you can basically achive beeing unbannable in a group if you are just fast enough on your keyboard.
