Would you try a Mac computer? Why or why not?

currently working with a 2024 macbook pro M4. only thing I really use it as a main computer for at the moment is music production.
that said, if you want a comp that's good for portability, and efficiency by way of most applications being built by the makers of the OS on which they run, get a mac. if you want everything else, get a windows PC

I would never buy a mac computer because I always had windows computers. I can imagine that music production works well on mac computers, but there are some programs for windows which are just as good, reaper for example. My father is a professional musician and he always worked with windows. From what I've heard, voice over is a good screenreader, but I like NVDA and I'm just used to it by now. I also agree with all the people who mentioned problems with gaming. There are some games which can be played on mac computers, but from what I know, most BGT-audiogames only work on windows. Emulators are also a problem, especially if you use them as much as I do. All in all, I'm totally happy with windows

I'll be honest, since a while ago I just didn't like it at all, especially because I felt like it's a waste of money. And yes, while it's still quite expensive as far as I know, I'm quite interested in one now. Not as much as that I'd get one, probably, but the concept of it sort of gets me.
@22, music production is possible on a Mac very well yeah. They have their Logic, and Ableton of course.
#24 Irroadium
That might be true, but my father likes reaper way more than logic pro. I want to start producing music someday, but I'd not spend like 1000 dollars on a new computer if I can just use a different program

Well, true that is. I personally prever Ableton, doesn't feel as difficult as Reaper. I mean, it does, but I just feel like the process is just more straight and simpler.

Anyway, we've gotten offtopic I think. LOL
#27 Irroadium
I don't think so, we're still talking about mac computers

Man I can't ever figure out anything on Reaper. It's probably me though, I haven't fully tried to use it for anything serious. there's just a lot to it, and I can't find much more than keyboard commands.

But anyways, I have thought of possibly getting a mac at some point but don't see the use in it, I mean, I already have this computer (windows), don't know why I'd need another one. Maybe just to fuck around with it, but I could just use a virtual machine.

I definitly appreciate that opinion,.
My thinking though is that for all points and perpousies logic is a lot cheeper than most of the DAWs used on windows, reaper excluded of course, but that's got it's own problems for new users.
for example, when I started producing, I would've much rather had all the things I needed built into the program I'm using while not having to pay a bank breaking $700 for something like abelton for example.
That said, if you want to be able to customise what you want out of a track passed apple plugins, definitly go for windows.

Reaper is complicated, I totally agree. But it's not expensive and it has almost everything you need for music production, and as far as I know, you can customize many keyboard shortcuts. I havn't started working with it yet, but from what I've heard, you can learn how to use it if you spend enough time with it

they have a buggy OS

thing about reaper's that you need VST plugins to get anywhere. Their out there, but either paid or extremely dificult to find. And in order to customise that keymap you need experience. I won't say that I don't use reaper at all, because it's got it's marrets, but for production I much prefer logic so far.

WTF ya talking about? You need VSTs for anything and everything, except for logic pro or garage band, ableton maybe. But if you are serious about making something, this shouldn't be the most difficult thing. As for finding VSTs, there's a russian website that starts with vsthouse

I already have a mac, but it's slow, crappy, and intell based. The only nice thing I have on that thing is open cor legasy patcher
