The fake number station

Here is a silly thing I did for a web project in 2009. Older people might remember the number stations which were broadcasting on shortwave frequencies duging the so-called cold war. In these transmissions severe sounding voices were reading out secret service messages encrypted with numbers and letters for their agents in the whole world.

I tried recreating this for an audio captcha system. So I recorded the numbers 1 to zero and letters a to z using a TTS, mixed it with a typical shortwave background noise, and sent it through some bandpass plugins to make it sound like a cheap shortwave radio. The result sounds quite OK, though it misses the typical fading effect for shortwave stations. Maybe I'll recreate this with a better TTS voice. Anyway, here are the files. Extract the ZIP file, and let the folder play randomly if you are bored.
