talking to somebody privately?

Hey, so I know you can message people, but is there way to talk to them like you would texting somebody?

You can choose someone on your contacts list, who is online list, you can also write someone a private message by pressing alt on their post, you down arrow once, to click on their name, and the first thing that shows up is to write a private message, there is a subject line which is entirely optional, and if you tab once, there's a message edit box, and once you finish typing your message, press send by tabbing twice.

I knew about the messaging someone bit. so to talk to someone more like you'd text them and they'd get it instatly, I'd have to add them to my contact first it sounds like.
Do I understand correctly?

You can write a private message to someone if you don't have that person on your contacts list as well.

yeah. I don't really get what you mean with messaging someone by texting because you can just drop them a message and they'll get it. So i don't really see your point

Maybe he means that for example I send you a message and you get it like at the second

lol it takes a few seconds but lol what is the difference. If you use your pc its not expected that you're stressed and need to get it 100 ms later

At least it's not like using a third party Twitter client, where you need to wait 2 damn minutes to receive a message someone sends you.

You can call that person if A, he/she is online and B, he/she is in your contact list. There will be a call option in the same menu referred to before in this thread.

As far as third-party Twitter clients, TWBlue, Quinter and Tweesecake all support streaming. Direct messages are slow, but you can set them, at least in TWBlue, to update every minute.

On the manage my account privacy settings, you can choose if you want only your friends to call you, or everyone to call you, or no one will call you.

Thanks! Yeah I need to purchase a mic for this There's no way to set a thing that tells people you're away though. Like say you stepped out for dinner and you're not there. Hmm. And yeah, I mean private somebody like instantly. Like you know, texting on a phone.

You can activate do not disturb mode with shift f2 (it works only when you're focused on the elten window) but you still hear that sound when someone calls you.
However, if they write, post in a thread you follow or similar stuff you don't get notifyed, you only hear the calls.
Also the message, if the person isn't on the conversation, can take between 5 to 10 seconds to arrive, while if you're in the conversation you get the message in like 3 seconds.

Thanks! Is there a way to spell the username name out character by character? Also, I have two contacts now. One is online, and one isn't. Is there a way to only show the people that are online at the moment? oh lol 3 seconds is much better!

Hmm, for example here, you can go on someone's post, press context menu, go to visit card, and you will have a nickname.
You can also see who is online on elten, but you can't see only your online ontacts.

Yeah but shift+F9 isn't what I was looking for. Right now I have two people on my contacts, and it'd be nice to see only your contacts that are online.

The beep sound meens someone on your contax is online

I don't think I've heard a beep sound yet? I've heard a woohoo sound or something like this... Is that what you are referring too?

When you're scrolling through your contacts and when you hear the high pitch beep, that means one of your contacts is online, if you don't hear it, that means one of your contacts is offline.
