EltenLink

something i've been wondering about radio streams for a while

Hi all. Let me explain what i'm trying to look for.
So bac when Clango was a thing, I could connect to a radio station, pause it, wait for 12 hours, possibly even longer sometimes, and when I resumed, it put me back to exactly where i paused, twelve hours ago. Then, I could skim through the last twelve hours of the stream and find out if there was anything intresting i wanted to record from it. I did this quite frequently in fact.
So, since klango died, i've tried looking for something that will let me have this functionality of buffering a stream into memory or something, for as long as you wanted. I tried connecting to streams of the radio station in question with elten's builtin player, as well as fubar2000, but could only pause, and wen i ddid pause, it stopped, not letting me hear what happened just a few seconds ago. It may have to do with the stream itself, not the player, but Klango's player was able to do this regardless of what stream it was connecting to.
So, is there anything that will let me do this? Thanks.

I don't think so. Klango seem to have a automatically recording option which automatically was recording the radio station while it was playing. As far as I know, it was the only player that was having that option. That's why it was so great.

I wonder if it would be possible to put that function in elten? I agree that feature was very useful. I mis it sometimes. But don't know of anything else that does the same.

Yes, it would be very nice if Elten would have that feature. I found it so nice too the way Klango was programmed.

Good news. Just a few days ago I found out, that klango is still capable of entering custom URL's from the guest account, so in theory the functionality is not lost, you just need to find a stream to connect to, since the media catalog is no more.

Do you then still have Klango installed on your computer? I removed Klango shortly before it was shut down.

I also removed my coppy. Didn't see the point of keeping it. Although the sound quality was better than elten, but that's another story.

That's right. What's the point of keeping a program that doesn't exist any longer.
I don't know about the sound quality of Elten since I can't have access to the media catalog; although it must be said that the sound quality of a radio station does not always depend from the program you are using. It mostly depends from the URL type the radio station is using and some radio stations are not always using the best URL types.

I keep klango on my computer for a few reasons, one of them being the fact that i was too lazy to remove it, and never knew when it would come in handy for, maybe checking file bitrates or just listening to a playlist of files. That's one weird thing about Elten,it's playlist management. I keep entering a playlist i made like a month ago, and i can't close it.
And now that I know that connecting to streams and being able to go back and record things is an option, i do that with Klango as well.

Well, for me, these would be no reasons to keep a player like Klango that doesn't exist any longer. In the mean time, you can always use another player such as, Winamp, or I-Tunes to play your files until Elten 2.3 will come out. I'm sure elten will then work much better than it does now.

By sound quality, I ment the music, I listen too, doesn't come across as clearly on elten as on klango. I might just try out klango, and see how the stream works. Although I'm not sure how to use klango to access a stream. I listen to the bbc, and there is already a programme for that. Sorry for the very long post.

Longer posts are better than shorter ones in these forum-type things. If you read through a bunch of short messages, it does get annoying. Now, back to the regularly scheduled topic at hand.

The media catalog on clango was pretty cool back then for its time.

So you basically unarchived this thread so you can say something absolutely unrelated and which doesn't help anyone?

Moderation
ArcticMoon, I told George that he would have been fine with the first part of his post, But not the second part. I fixed it for him. So This is just a caution and not an official warning.

A caution exactly for what? :D

George was just commenting how he liked the idea about the klango radio stream and how he wished it was on elten. I told him that he shouldn't have added that second part about the radio stream being on elten. If he wanted to, he should have put it in the elten development group. Then you say that his post was completely unrelated to the main post of this thread. George was just expressing ih likeness for the klango media catalog. That's all.

Ah, got it. To be honest yeah it would be cool, but there are always apps for streaming radio, or getting their direct links and stream them in your media player :)

George was unarchiving a thread you guys wanted to archive so badly just recently becausse uh, we could just start new topics then. So don't abuse your dumb power and start a new purposeless topic then or just leave it alone.
