Elevators and escalators

Hi everyone.
On this Thread, we can talk about anything about elevators and escalators. What do you like about them, and also what you don't like. Because a lot of us come from different countries and background, it will be interesting to see what elevators are like in your country. Do they have braille beside the buttons? Do they talk? Do they feel OK when you are on them?
I know quite a lot about elevators. I can Walk into one or just feel the buttons, and I could tell you what the brand is, the type, and all of the spects.
This is also the place to ask questions about elevators and escalators. I know that blind people really don't like escalators because it's hard to know sometimes when to step off.

I have no problem with escalators. When getting on and off I keep one foot ahead of the other and I easily glide with that leading foot. My sighted guides are usually very impressed.

Arn't you worried about getting your foot cot in the gap between the escalator and the floor? I have heard of quite a number of blind people having that happend and so that's why I much prefer taking elevators. Just so you know, where there are escalators, there is an elevator of some sort somewhere in the building. So you can just ask your sighted guides for the elevator and they will probably be more comfortable with that anyway. The other thing is should something happend, there is no emergency stop button on the escalator except where you get on and off. When you are in an elevator, you have the emergency stop button, the alarm button, and a phone button, so that's why elevators are way more safer. Now, for people that have clostifobia, that's more understanding to take an escalator. And if you are clostifobic and are don't like elevators or escalators, there has got to be a normal set of stairs for you to be able to have access to.

I don't have any problems with using both of these. When I'm using escalators, I step ahead with one foot, so it is on the next step and ahead of that foot I put my kane, so I am getting the info when they are finishing early enough to get ready to step off.

No, I don't worry about the gap. My lead foot is slightly raised, toes up, just a bit, so the foot slides smoothly on or off the escalator. If the escalator stops, I can always walk up or down.

Here in Germany, the elevator may go to a different place, such as in train stations, so the escalator is the only option a lot.

No problem here either with using escalators. As Charles and others mentionned, if you put your foot on the step ahead instead of right beside your other foot it's easy to know when you have to step off the escalator and also with the use of your kane if you put it ahead of you. Also you are notified by the movement of the escalator when exactly you have to step off.
My parents taught me from childhood how to become familiar with elevators and escalators. As a child, I have always viewed it as being on a ride; in other words said, as an adventure.

I love going on elevator rides. And I love filming elevators and posting them on the internet. I have been on some quite interesting ones. I supposed you heard about elevator brands like Schindler, dover, westinghouse, and most popular of all Odis.

yes, but this is only at my local airport, but, the escalater censor and tell me watch my step and it is cool. also have you ever heard of flat escalaters aka moving sidewalks?

Yep, getting on and off the moving sidewalks is just like getting on and off escalators.

They have quite a lot of those in florida.

well. i am the guy who somehow likes elevators at some point. this moving, the sliding doors, this all has something awesome combined. well, escalators arn't my thing. but i won't talk anymore about that because this topic is a bit weired lmao. i just was bored so, there you go.

It's not weard at all. Some of us blind people love elevators. That's why I created this topic. You can even talk about what elevators are like in your country. Do they talk? Do they have Braille on the buttons? Anything about elevators an escalators is welcome here.

What's so hard about the escalators? You hold your hand on the handle and when it start changing its angle it means you're finishing your ride and you shall prepare to go.

Where as in an elevator you don't need to do anything but push a button or 2.

Yep! It can sometimes be embarrassing. I for example pushed the alarm button by accident. I mean it's good to know that the alarm works.

and the siren that i showed you in a voice call @jacobww3 went off ahahahaha!

That siren would be a really good elevator alarm, now that I think about it. If that doesn't get anyone's attention that you need help in the elevator, I don't know what will.
