How can I record footstep sounds?

Just to make this clear. that was an example here. Are you trying to record your own footsteps to use on your computer, or are you just trying to take a footstep sound that is all ready there. Because if you are planning on using an already recorded footstep sounds, there is vertuall recorder that you can use and then you can edit with Audacity.

Well, recording your footsteps and using already recorded ones won't really produce a better result IMHO.

@tsunami I don't really want to ruin your motivation, but footsteps are one of the hardest foley to record and postproduce.
I am not a foley artist so I'll just share some general tips.
1. foley pit, there are some DIY tutorials how to construct them, can't help you which one to choose cuz I don't have my own one
2. clothes and footwear that do not make any sounds
I really dare not advise you with microphones, there are more educated people here that can help you more than me :)
