Greetings everyone, hopefully everyone is doing great. This is kind of a response sort of thing to Nicola's posts. So, Nicola, that first flute actually reminded me of a tribal thing we have back where I originally come from. It's a single flute, usually very, I guess, crudely hand-carved, called a Iromara or a Charoara. Depending on what dialect you're using. And it sounds a little something like this. Now, I would kick that up into second register, but it is currently 1.23 in the morning. And I really don't want to get punched across that. So, I'm not going to do that. But, yes. And also, before I go away here, two questions. One, I noticed your post in the introduction thread where you said you were an ethnomusicologist. And that got me interested into exactly what the study of ethnomusicology is. So, feel free to shoot me a private message. And we can get into speaking about that a little bit. And two, could you technically kick one of the flutes, like, on the doinitse up to second register while keeping the other one in first register? It's a very complicated breath control technique. But it works with some double-fluted instruments that I've seen around to kind of provide a drone. So, yeah. So, that. And that's all I had to say. Goodbye. I can't speak English tonight for some reason.

You seem to be very knowledgeable regarding these instruments. You in fact obviously are. So let's see, I don't know if I remember everything that you said in your voice message, but I'll try. Yes, svirala is very very similar to flojera, and the alternative name for svirala is frula in Serbian, which comes from the corruption of flojera into flura and then into frula. So yeah, it is basically the same instrument. As for diple. They have many variants present all over, from Montenegro to Herzegovina to Croatia, Dalmatia and those parts. There are similar instruments also in Albania, but that particular instrument is dying out here. Because it used to be... limited only to shepherds. Well, svirala was also, but for some reason svirala adjusted better than diple. So yeah, diple are unfortunately a dying instrument, at least here. But there are still people who try to preserve them and to play them. I don't play them. But... I know a few people who do. So... Yeah, it's an interesting situation. As for dvojnice, I am glad you got your hands on them. They are quite readily available here, if you know where to look. But I'm surprised that they are... They have arrived... So... They have been sent so far away. And I'm kind of glad. So yeah, I am very happy to know that there are people who are interested in these instruments.

I may be blind, but I do not trust blindly, you see? :D

hey well yes I'm interested in different types of music well music isn't my main field it's just something I have passion for but yes I know the play is an instrument usually played by shepherds I've heard so regarding the Dvojnice I was able to play these came from someone that I know he's originally Serbian he lives in Cyprus he was the one who was able to send to me to send me those so well I didn't get to keep them for too long actually because I didn't really have a lot of use for them and it's not a really common instrument here I probably still have a lot of use for them but I don't know if I'll be able to I probably still have a lot of use for them and it's not a really common them somewhere I'm not really sure but yeah I know in Albania they have the chief Delia which is like chief Deli but the woodwind version of it there's also the guide there in which is more like a bagpipe actually but it's similar to the all those instruments the guide there in Albania and Greece as well guide that they have it so yeah there's a lot a large range of woodwind and reed instruments the the that are similar to midways or deep play or whether there's like sort of nice which I also tried playing there's the Arab equivalent like Miss Marr which is a like Miss Marr which is a like Miss Marr which is a like Zurnas but like a more Arab style like Zurnas but like a more Arab style Zurnas there's the Maltese Zumara which is like a Zurnas there's the Maltese Zumara which is like a but I think the scales are a bit different but yeah I love this type of instrument that you know you get to play that way you know through breath control air control um it's my favorite type of instruments so um yeah I mean it's really really interesting to know that across different parts of the world there are instruments that are similar but still so different it intrigues me

Other than those you named, there are Sopile in Istria, they have their own scale, special Istrian scale, in which they play their different folk tunes and songs. I think I have some field recordings of that actually, I will look for them and see whether I am able to send them here, or if not, maybe through an email or something. But yeah, if you are interested in that, I have some field recordings, not only of Sopile, but of Gaide from Vojvodina, from different areas of Serbia, I think I have some from Macedonia, I'm not sure. I will have to check. Yeah, I'm very glad to have a chance to converse with someone who is interested in this particular genre of music.

I may be blind, but I do not trust blindly, you see? :D

Yeah, if you mentioned Sopila, I've heard about this musical instrument as well. Yeah, and the similar musical instrument just exists. For example, good example is Turkish Zorna or in Morocco it is Gaita. And in Egypt, for example, I'm sorry, in Egypt it is, for example, Zumara or Mizmar. Unfortunately, my Mizmar from Egypt is broken so I couldn't play it and also have a terrible technique to play on such double reed musical instruments. Sorry for this. Thank you.

It's interesting that you mentioned the zurna because I've tried playing the Greek zurnas, which is just, it's the same thing. The zurnas, I got it when I was in Larnaca, and I left it there. I don't have it here. But it's a really interesting instrument to play, actually. And yeah, mizmar is kind of like the Arab version of zurna, but I think they play different scales depending on how the instrument is created.

Hello everyone! Me here again to showcase something kind of cool. Now what I have in front of me here is a Arubian Tribal Idomarra in the key of G-Rust, a bayat, with a microtonal third or second depending on what skill you're using, so. But that's not the cool thing I wanted to show you. The cool thing is this set of chromatic notes which we in the Arubian Tribal world call the quiet tones or the weak tones. Now this works on most recorder types and I'm pretty sure a lot of flautists around the world are aware of these things' existence, but for those of you who aren't, here I am to explain them. Now, as I've said previously, the weak tones or the quiet tones, depending on where you're from, it depends on the region, are a set of chromatic notes that climb up the scale from C. And how these are achieved are if you cover the register hole like normal and every other hole except for the top one. Now if you were covering the register hole and the top one solely, you would get an E. But. If you neglect to cover that top hole and the register hole, or not the register hole, sorry guys I'm very tired, if you neglect to cover that top hole, thank you English for finally working, and cover every other hole while simultaneously covering the register hole, how many times can I say hole in this message, you will achieve a C in the quiet tones. And yes, these also do have registers, so C, G, it's a fifth up. It's a little bit sharp, but this thing was very crudely constructed, so I can't fault it. And so basically what this allows you to do is add a little bit of chromaticism to your piece. Let's take off the chromaticism. Funoa! your performance! Go! um now that f and that e so these two notes here are were the um weak tones that i was using because as previously stated this is a flute in the key of g or a respectively so uh you could not achieve that note as normal without having to do a half tap which is kind of annoying so uh yeah have fun with that guys

I kind of expected you to bring out the Iromarra. Next time show us the karayopango or the chichirawa these two are cool
