How to create automations in Reaper?

Hello,

Does someone know of a step-by-step guide how to use automation features in Reaper? I found one in the reaper accessibility project wiki, but it is not really written for blody beginners and supposes knowledge of terms and controls which are not explained elsewhere in the wiki.
As an example I would like to fade down the volume in the middle of a music track to bring the voice track in the foreground. The suggested method is to create an automation, but I don't really understand how to do this.

Hi,
1. Ctrl + alt + v to make the volume env vissible.
2. Ctrl + l to select the volume env.
3. Find the place where do you want to start ducking the music, and put the cursor to it.
4. Insert an env point by pressing shift + e, and the second one on the place where the music decreasing should stop.
5. Use alt + shift + e to set the env point's value.
6. Done!

But more usefull for this situation will be to create a side-chain, I think...

Many thanks, I will try this.

I hope it'll work well for you.

OK the key combinations are right, unfortunately I don't get any feedback from reaper or osara. When pressing Alt + Shift + E to set the values, simply nothing happens. The previous key combinations seem to work, at least I can see appropriate actions in the undo history.

You need to stay on the position of the env point to edit it's value...

#8

I hope that will work, try to press f12 to enable shortcut help and press the alt + shift + e shortcut, if it'll say something...

#9

Yes, I checked all shortcuts using F12. And for one moment I got real feedback from Osara, but the next time it was silent again. Maybe something's broken in my Reaper. The Alt + K shortcut to move between envelope points also doesn't work properly.

Yeah, finally got it to work using the key combinations. Still don't know what went wrong, probably a focus issue in the track/item selection. Now I'm able to create my envelope points and jump between them using Alt+K and Alt+J.
Thanks a lot.
