It was not a private map, but a public one. I don't remember the exact wording of the name, but something like ultimate SBYW tutorial or whatever.

-- (Sir-Charlie):
@52, I am still very confused. Moderators can't even move to private maps. I'm trying to understand what you're saying but you phrased your post very confusingly.

Regarding pay to win I fully agree with you, it's ridiculous how Patryk is bashing anything and everything he sees.
But maps. You cannot, and I mean, can not avoid descriptions when they are in the name of the map. I mean, if it's not "A dense forest" but "This is a very big and dark forest with threes growing everywhere." etc, because they are much, much longer, it's very frustrating.

-- (SirHoward):
Full disclosure: I'm an admin of SBYW. I have been for nearly 7 years, and I have quit once or twice. not permanently, obviously. I have my fair share of complaints with the game. But the most recent ones have no merit.
First: The game has a one time payment of 12 credits. This is equal to 12 USD. With this paid account, you gain access to custom online and offline sounds, lower prices at the shop, where you can buy items that will make you run faster or jump higher, I'll get to those in a minute, a hook, and an item contributors can use for greater convenience on their own maps. To be clear, you can buy those items even if you are not a paid player, they will just cost more coins. You also get the ability to build passages and URL sources and ambiences, and maybe a few other things I'm forgetting. Now, you may see those items and think wait, isn't that pretty pay to win? No, because anyone can disable any of these items on any map they create, and a lot of them do, so in a lot of cases these items are moot.
You might then be saying, what if I can't afford that? That's fine. I've been known to sponsor people who want paid accounts. It's not nothing, but it's low enough in my native currency that I don't mind helping somebody out from time to time, and we've also been known, as a team, to give out credits a time or two. Or ten.
After that, the only two things that cost credits are advertisements, which nobody uses and I'm almost certain we've actually taken down, and premium maps, which mostly add the ability to change jump heights and walking speeds, as well as hardland damage. These cost 1 credit, so one USD. And if you're not a big time builder, this will not affect you. Now does that sound like P2W or greed to you?
The next thing I'm going to address here is the zones business. This is purely a matter of subjectivity. If you don't like long zones, don't read them. I am the main culprit of this, I know. I have many maps there with very wordy zones. But if you wanna know what map you're on, just press the letter M. It won't read the zone, it'll just read the map name for you. Easy peasy, I don't like cheesy.
If you guys don't like the game, that's fine. There are a few reasons not to. If you don't like building, if you don't like writing, really either one is a reason why you'd not want to play something like this. But don't treat the game like it's some terrible, horrible, no good, very bad place full of greedy mustache twirling businessmen. This game is not lucrative. AT ALL. And if you don't want to pay money for it because it's going down in 7 ish months, again, fair enough. But what I'm seeing in this thread is just you subjectively disliking the game, which is fine, or full on misinformation. Which is not.

No. The problem is that a map has a name and a description. When you enter somewhere, the most important is the name. If you want to read more, you press the according letter and you see the description. This exact thing is the problem of a lot of clones as well, which I personally have never seen, but unfortunatelly some acquaintances play such stuff so I'm aware.

-- (SirHoward):
Also, I reread a few of the posts and got some clarity. Is your complaint that the map is not simply called what it is? That, again, is subjectivity. I view each map like a book. You want a book to have a good title, right? Sure I could name it "MedievalFantasyMapNumber1," but does that inspire curiosity? Would you read a book called "Romantic Fantasy With Elves And Faeries Number 6 in the Romantic Fantasy With Dwarves Elves And Faeries series written by Author From Washington State?"

Huh, no idea what you mean. Maps on SBYW don't have descriptions in the way you describe them. There are zones, but this is completely different than the name of a map or anything you say here.

Again, it's still like 6 months. That's a you problem then. It could be stated on the site yes but it's not required. No need for this kind of perfectionism.
-- (ArcticMoon):
In fact I opened the game and exactly from there I got this information. It's a bit phishy, because the site doesn't even give you any updates about the situation, first you must download the whole thing to figure it out. That's a vaste of roughly 4 GB of storage loss if you decide that in this stage you don't need it.

-- (Jonathan):
If you have no idea about the situation you haven't opened the game, as it's literally in the MOTD that greats you before even creating any account or anything. Also who says SBYW can't eventually be continued by someone else/sold/whatever? Yes ok, it is a special situation with SBYW, I'm aware and understand that, but it's still a longer while. Why shouldn't the devs still get some money from it? They still run the server, which costs money.
-- (ArcticMoon):
Except for the fact that now we already know for sure that SBYW is shutting down. They don't give any excuses, nothing. It is, shutting, down, period. When modders started working on WOW, we, of course knew that at some point they'll burn out, but we never know when. Maybe someone will take it over. Maybe someone will work on it further. On SBYW, noone is going to work and they made it clear. The payment system is still active though and if you have no idea about the situation, you'll still mindlessly purchase anything and everything you want. The same thing happened with STW and to be honest Sam's reputation horribly fell in my eyes. Not that it matters, but I don't think I was alone with that.

-- (Jonathan):
Read the last few sentences of post 49 and 52. Do you spot it?

I'm really confused. This is an exploration game. Zones are going to be there to describe what you are exploring. You're not running around on a map avoiding people. You're looking around worlds people have created, so yes, having a longer description is good. Now would it be cool to have a short zone key and a long zone key? I think so. But I think people could survive reading a few more sentences that you don't have to listen to constantly.
It occurs to me now you might be talking about the premium 3d map thing in map names in menus. That's not a map description, that's just letting you know what you're getting into so you know how to navigate and what to expect. I truly don't know what you want.

@77, you should be old nough to understand why this is not OK, so I'll save you the trouble of reading a long lecture. All I'll say is you know that its wrong, so move on.
