navigating with airpods in the ears

Hi, so for christmas, I got my AirPods Pro 2 for use with head tracking in SoundScape. That's why I want to hear your opinion in navigation with AirPods in your ears. Is it safe to do, or is it risky that you miss something important on the street (a car, a bike)? Of corse I will turn on transparency mode.

defenetly a risq. especially if you
intend to listen to music. if you need a headset you can navigate around with, try getting some bone conductors when you get the chance.

Thank you, but I don't listen to music outside.
#4 starchild
yeah, no. I wouldn't either. I would still reccomend bone conductors just in case

I personally don't like the feel and quality of some bone conductors, especially the aftershogz titanium. also if your out on a busy street it gets a bit difficult to hear them, but I suppose its better than airpods because you have open ears. transparency mode is good but not for independent navigation while listening to something IMO.

agreed. I've got the meta glasses, but navigation is the only thing I really use them for. I've got a pixel 8 I use most of the time because google maps seems the most relyable in my area.

It's ok to listen to music on your airpods, because they automatically muffle or completely mute all media sounds so you can still hear everything.

If I was fully blind or had no kind of access to visual input I'd probably handle this different, but on the one way I often go so far I use my PixelBuds/previously used my AirPods and also listen music with them. Of course in transparency mode, and I always pause it when crossing streats. Imo this is a very good solution. If you are aware of what's around you, and if you are actually confident to handle this I see no problem, but I also think that's individual. I mean it's obvious to not do this with any sort of Earbuds that block any noice or loud music etc.

Î'm completely blind. So I won't listen to music on the street. But I already tried using AirPods now and I think it works quite well, the only thing that's annoying me is that sometimes, when cars are passing, the noise gets reduced and I think it's more far away.

I'de only ware one, if I was navigating around somewhere I know, but out on the street or in some place you don't know, I wouldn't. I think it also depends on whether you can navigate around well with say, your cain, or guidedog

I can navigate well with the cane, but don't have a guide dog. Butwith navigating I mean locations I don't know, so the cane won't show me the way.

I personally use the meta glasses with my phone when I am outside walking. that way my ears are ully open, and I can have the features of the meta glasses all in one.

I always put just one of my earbuds in, that way I can listen to music and I still have the other ear for the navigation. That doesn't work with all earbuds though. I use the JBL wave buds, they automatically switch to mono if you put one of them back in to the box

Oh. I have never heard of those earbuds. the ones I primarily use are the airpods pro second gen. I really do like those. I find it better to have both ears open when I am navigating. Yes, having one earbud in is better than two, but I still wouldn't recommend that.

I get what you mean. You really have to know where you're going if you do that. I only listen to music if I know the way very well
