Would you try a Mac computer? Why or why not?

I have soled some of my electronics and now have gained $900 by doing so. Mac OS has allways interested me, for its interesting interface, to garage band, its ability to code iphone apps, and the interesting ways of running Linux on m1 m2 or m3. I don't want to end up buying a mac and find out it has become an booring expensive paper weight though. Would you pick up a Mac? Or do something different.

Why not get a used one for cheap just to see if you like the OS or not?
#3 GraceDontmindbeingblind
I might, I just would like to try one of the M series, and the base M series comes with only 256 gigs so I could not sink my drop box folder with things to it. Maybie an M2 512 or something might be a good idea.

It depends for what you use it for really. It's a great OS really, but for anything other than serious work, not sure. Even word is good on windows and gaming is not something you're used to do on a mac either, even though nvgt will bring a big change in this surely. I more than once considered switching if it wouldn't be for the few things you could do with a mac. Other than that the system or pc is quite powerful, the built in mic and speakers are good, etc etc. So again it depends a lot on type of use

I already tryed mac os and I don't really like it. the voice over bugs make it too hard to handle and nun of them would get fixed
#6 blindTechProductions
I have a pritty old intel macbook running monterey and honestly, it isn't all that bad. Sure, voiceover does handle things a bit weirdly, but I'm still able to use it just fine. Sucks about gaming though, there aren't really as many audio or accessible video games compiled for macos but for everything else it isn't bad.
Can someone tell me what the experience is with voiceover and google docs?

What do you mean with voice over bugs

I ended up getting a base mac book air m2. I quite like it, wouldn't use it all day long, but its a nice machine, I am trying the Mac OS beta, and the asahi project. I am glad I did it.

Tried once. Didn't see the point to use it in my daily life, although wanted to learn sometime ago, but knowledge just for knowledge, not that i was interested to work on mac at some point, but when I discovered it a bit more, just stopped, just tell me why it's better. You can do everything what you can do on Windows, or if not, pardon my lack of knowledge, but really.

Not much, you can intagrate with apple devices, and try fetures on Mac OS like apple intelagence. I like the build quality though, that is nice. I am also trying an arm processer, I know windows computers have this to, but this is what ive got. You can also try projects like Asahi to push your Mac further.

I used to own a Mac and it's all right, I more prefer using windows because of the games I can play and Mostly I was using Windows for my entire life.

I would want to take a look at a mac. Using as a daily driver? Probably not because of limitations.

Hi there!
I had a macbook pro 2019 with intel 7 cpu.
I used it every day as I worked as an ios developer in several companies.
What I can tell.
Built-in system apps are accessible, awesome and cool. XCode for development is cool too.
But yes, as people already mentioned, voiceover has bugs, for example bug with lowering its volume on long phrases or with hanging all the interface in case of any problem.
Sometimes you have problems with focusing on popup windows or with switching to them.
There is a big problem with ntfs support, so you can copy a huge file in seconds or wait for hours until a 500 megabyte audio is copied to your external harddrive. with other filesystems there are no problems at all, only with ntfs.
Terminal is a piece of shit! Really! Consider installing YASR or TDSR or even Fenrir for terminal narration because with voiceover it is really a piece of laggy hanging shit.
Btw, if you deal with console software, never, believe and remember, neeever touch system-wide ruby installation. never do a gem update, gem install or other modifications of system ruby until you have a full backup of your system.
If you need anything related to ruby gems, then install rbenv via brew and use that user space ruby to do things.
Many tools depend on system ruby and if you accidentally update its version without proper preparation you can get failing system with malfunctioning appstore and backup software.
Speakers are awesome! I just loved them, no other words!
Microphone would be awesome if you could disable noise cancellation. Since macos bigsur you no longer can do that without breaking your leg.
Maybe something changed in sequoya, didn't tried, but as of monterey and ventura it was so.
If you need more help with macos you can send me a pm.

Hi. Yes, I would. MacOS is slowly getting better, I feel, I currently own a mac mini 2018 and I am seriously loving it. For its age it can run the latest version of MacOS, however when I try to use bootcamp I can't get it to let me select the appropriate size of my partition. If anyone has a solution throw it my way. :)

Afaik there's no way currently to move this slider without a sighted person.
I heard about CLI way of deploying bootcamp, but already forgot and cannot find any article about this.
Maybe ask on applewis, I guess they can help you.

Isn't applevis dead?
#17 ArcticMoon
It isn't. After the maintainers wanted to shut it down, they got support so now everything's all right.

Oh, ok. Wasn't informed about that. Guess it's a good thing, since it is a benificial place of information
