I'd choose Xiaomi poco f5 or f5 pro if you have the budget. Of course android phones, as well as iPhones have their nuances, in this case xiaomi with miui or later hyper os. You need to decide a lot of things. Do you want to use some kind of a braille input? If yes, there's Advanced Braille Keyboard but it can break anytime. Now it works, but a month ago it didn't, due to a bug of hyper os. I'd immediately set up commentary screenreader and wouldn't stay with talkback, of course both have advantages and disadvantages, but in my personal opinion commentary has more advantages than talkback.

Isn't that some chinese company? Meh. I heard the pixels from google are pretty good but didn't try. I once had a samsung phone was very satusfied back then but switched back to iOS because there were some things I missed android having. I also have a samsung tablet which I could use if I'd simply get a charger... Didn't use that in like a year by now or longer, so would be pretty exciting.
Unfortunate is for me that voice assistant is gone, it had an interesting vibe and I liked it's misterious soundtheme. The entire soundtheme thing is an upside with commentary. But else, I never got truely into it, it just didn't seem very good or stable. Would love to feel the opposit, though.

I recomend Galaxy S24 Ultra, or the Pixel 8, which supports i think 8 years of updates

Commentary has a lot, and I mean a lot, of soundthemes to choose from, including dozens of assistant variants.
About Xiaomi being a chinese company, yes, you are right. On the other hand, do you realize all the things you use, including your phone, notebook, tablet, and let me say more, even your clothes were made in China?
Don't act as everything from China is horrible, as mainly everything is from there nowadays. I'd imagine even the so much preferred pixel 8 is designed there.
About android being unstable. My experience is absolutely the opposite, for me android as a system works flawlessly with commentary, and a few adjustments.
Keep in mind I was also an iPhone fan a year ago, but I honestly didn't trust my iPhone SE 2nd gen anymore due to various battery and screen problems, so I wanted to act quickly.
A community I'm a part of, heavily suggested me to pick poco f5, so I did. And I'm satisfied. Yes, it has its flaws. But don't forget you can always change what you don't like in android.
Don't you like miui or hyper os? Install a custom rom and live with that.
Don't you like talkback? You have at least 2 alternatives including Commentary and Prudence.

What is that other alternative of talkback you talked about?
I didn't deny that everything from the producers side comes from china, but somehow I imagine chinese software to be always somewhat weird or cheep. Don't mind me.
Well I have a friend and he was here in summer telling me about the only reason him having bought an Android was the cheeper price compared to iPhones. He had to buy a new phone bc his Phone was quite old and the battery was drained.

Also, random but I wish the swipe sounds of voice assistant and some others wouldn't be midi. Would love to make my elten theme of it better...

@13 that statement hasn't been true since 1990 lol. The Chinese are just as capable as America as far as manufacturing and software goes.
The Google Pixel is probably your best bet living in the USA. If not that Samsung.

This might sound stupid but I'd love if I could get some file manager for iOS maybe via sideloading and then copy in android screenreader sounds or something. Getting bored of the voiceover one we know for like more than 14 years by now.

for android, there is an app which basically does the same, but just much much easier. it basically is able to download themes online, suh as voice over, old talk back and more and then changes the screenreader tones to the selected ones. the orginal ones need to be disabled in the settings for that. the app is awayable in the play store, as far as I remember, and is called audex.

as for IOS, I don't really think that such should work.
