Once the hairs are short it might be possible to shave the intimate areas with a safety razor, as they used to be called. Since I only shave my face I can't be of any real help on that.

I guess I'm an outlyer in that I've actually gotten quite confident with a straight razor for mainly my face. I'd agree in that I'm still way too scared to try that anywhere else, but I shave exclusively with manual razor blades. It 100% can be done, and they're tons cheeper.
