alternative file managers

Basically I really like eltens file manager, though I plant to push elten a little away, therefore I still need a good file manager, bc win explorer is very slow and laggy, and also I like that elten could play files just in the file manager, so like having it played just by hitting space. So are there any good ones out there?

I'm using Xplorer2 Pro and SpeedCommander, both are paid programs. Xplorer2 has some slight accessibility glitches such as wrong reporting of current position in a folder, apart from that I like its fast performance even on slower machines. SpeedCommander is a good choice for working with cloud services. You can e.g. integrate your Dropbox without installing the actual desktop app. This avoids the 3 devices limit for free accounts. Both file managers have a preview function, allowing you to immediately play files upon navigating.

Free commander, it isn't very accessible, but I love this.

Why I am not surprised? There is a free version of Xplorer2, maybe it already fits your needs.

Total commander maybe? It's the most popular after the basic file manager in windows.

Aha, thank you. Well as far as I saw the free version should fit anyones private needs.

Hmm, so it does work, but I can't get it to play stuff, like the preview. Something like space will just unselect it, ctrl+p doesn't work either, and others of that type, so idk. Also post2 of this topic is very, ehh, weird.

Try CTRL+Q instead.

o hmm. It works, ish, but it apparently has ishues with playing ogg files, it's somehow connecting to the media player for that, unlike elten which has it's player within the program. Is there any way to fix that though? Last thing I may try is setting the default to another app

Hmm, from the good old days I remember direct show filters to play ogg files in Windows Media Player. Don't know if they still exist or are useable at all in recent Windows versions.

btw why does elten create those weird desktop.ini files everywhere, they're just annoying. Deleting them makes them reappear after a short while and idk why that file is neded.

Windows does the same thing. I just live and let live.

This is windowses hidden file. Elten shows all hidden files so it also shows the desktop.ini files. It is used for customizing the folder structure.

ah. Wish there would be a way to turn that off, like those typa files. But the file manager should get updated anyway, like selecting all or several files to copy for example. Right now, that does not work

You can try total commander.
For playing audio files automaticaly or with a single key you can try any of plugins. f3 does that for popular audio formats and ctrl+q does this automaticaly while just navigating between files.
There can be a problem only with flac format which is not playing neither with f3 nor with ctrl+q for me. but maybe your system is less laggy and it will work. for my friends who use TC it works... for me not.

To be honest I'm absolutely lazy to customize TC, that's why I haven't tried it yet.

i allready offered you the done build with usefull plugins and all the necessary settings made. and you know, the best thing in my build, the most useful for anyone here.....
